The site is 33 x 55sq metres and situated just south of the village of Tujereng and east of the coast road in the countryside area known as Farakunku ( a Mandinka word meaning ‘land of the rice growers’) It is now an area of local vegetable farms and small dwelling compounds with vehicle tracks leading from the main road and footpaths leading to the local Gambian homes and the open bush area. |
| There are cockle shell driveways , raised paths leading to each lodge, an abundance of flowering plants in garden areas, a large plunge pool with paved (non-slip) open area for sunbathing, a shady open air restaurant terrace all set amongst a collection of indigenous trees. |
There is an attractive covered well and a circular seat around the ‘meeting tree’. Discreetly placed solar -powered hot water cylinders are at ground level while water tanks and solar panels are on raised iron frames away from the lodges. All lodges are named after their nearest tree/shrub. Each has private garden area with table and chairs and hammock. Sun-beds are at the pool side but can be placed on the patios on request. |
We have a day watchman and gardener as well as a night security guard for your safety. The entire compound is walled and gated for your privacy and security and we, the owners, live in the adjoining compound. Other staff include a chef, a cleaner and a laundry girl all of whom live locally …this being our way of contributing positively to the life and economic prospects of our lovely Gambian neighbours. |
