Arts and Crafts workshops while at Farakunku LodgesNot far away (a 10 minute drive in our vehicle) is a wonderful Women’s Museum and Art Centre - ‘Mama Africa’ - where pre-booked workshops for batik, painting, weaving, jewellery making and sculpture (using both wood and clay) are held. The owner/ artist, Isha Fofana, is an enthusiastic and delightful person with her own very unique and vibrantly colourful, vigorous style of painting, using acrylics. |
At ‘Mama Africa’ there is open air studio space for arts workshops which must be pre- booked by guests at the same time as booking to stay at Farakunku Lodges. You can specify your interests and attend for either half/ full day or several days or preferably follow a week’s programme (see our sample programme) In the one week programme you have the chance to explore different activities on offer or to concentrate on just one. |
|
Workshops can be for small groups (max 6) or individuals. Guidance and assistance will be given personally by Isha, for painting, and by other local experts for batik, weaving, silversmith jewellery and sculpture. Materials used, are charged for at reasonable local rates (please enquire for price list) but guests are asked to bring their own acrylic and/or watercolour paints, brushes, sketch books and palettes. NB Isha uses acrylics only. Personal woodcarving tools should be packed in main luggage only! |
| If following the 1 week programme, you will lunch at a selection of local restaurants … down at the fantastic, unspoilt beach at Batokunku, just a 5 minute walk away from the studios, where there is a local-style thatched fish restaurant, or, further afield, when on trips out. |
|
You will be taken to Mama Africa for your workshop sessions and collected and returned here to Farakunku Lodges by late afternoon, in time for a dip in the pool, refreshments and hot showers, well before your 3-course evening meal. |
